In the middle of a raging battle in the state House Friday over gun-control legislation, Vice President Joe Biden called four Democrats to chat about the proposed bills and their importance to the national debate.
Biden called House Speaker Mark Ferrandino, of Denver; Tony Exum of Colorado Springs, Dominick Moreno of Commerce City and Mike McLachlan of Durango.
Exum said Biden expressed his support for the bills and said it would be an important message to the nation if a western state took the lead on the legislation.
House Republican Leader Mark Waller accused Biden of targeting freshmen lawmakers in tough districts.
“There were Democrats, as we talked to them, they were on the fence about how they were going to vote on these bills today,” Waller, R-Colorado Springs, said. “When the vice president called them and told them how to vote, then they obviously were told what to do.”
House Democratic Leader Dickey Lee Hullinghorst disagreed with that statement.
“There were enough Democrats to vote yes when we started the day today,” Hullinghorst said. “The call was made to congratulate them and all of us on a vigorous debate and on addressing this issue.”
Hullinghorst said she knows her members and knows there weren’t any Democrats on the fence.
The debate Friday lasted more than 12 hours on four gun-control bills that included a limit on magazine capacity and universal background checks.
There are 37 Democrats and 28 Republicans in the House. It would have taken four voters swapping to tie the vote.
House Speaker Mark Ferrandino said “The states are the microcosm, the incubators for democracy.”
Criminals LOVE “gun free zones” and more gun laws. Disarm all law abiding citizens and set the criminals free. That’s how democrats rule.
Biden is only the most complete moron ever to be elected to high office, and a tragic example of what passes for a leader these days. Anyone who would listen to him and follow his instructions about anything has to be a total party hack idiot. It shouldn’t be called the democrat party….should be named the Lockstep Lemming Party as it blindly takes the nation over the cliff and into the abyss waiting below.

This is the stupidest set of laws that could possibly be thought of. Anyone who thinks that a law that only the lawful will follow will affect anything a criminal does is too stupid to live on their own. By the thinking on this, if my neighbor gets a DUI, I have to surrender my car??? The Ds like to say that the Rs aren’t willing to have a rational discussion. How about the Ds start talking about rational options that actually have a chance of making a difference, like identifying and treating the mental problems that cause the destructive thinking, and I’d bet the Rs would be willing to discuss.

Would the house and senate look like it does now if this whole issue of gun control was a campaign issue? I would say not. If the democrats ran as they voted last week they would have never won. It is an overreach they will pay for in the next election.

In Washington state, democrat legislators propose that to possess a firearm, you have to allow the local sheriff to invade your home without suspicion or probable cause once a year to “inspect.”

Wonder if Biden agrees with democrat state legislator Joe Salazar, who thinks that whistles and so-called “safe zones” will prevent any assault against any woman in this state……after all, we can’t have a woman defending herself against rape with a gun, right?
