Colorado Springs’ AdAmAn Club is a 90-year-old tradition among El Paso County mountaineers who climb Pike’s Peak every year on Dec. 30 to be on top of the mountain when the new year begins. And this year, Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia will join the group, for its entire two-day trek.
Gov. John Hickenlooper’s office, in a press release about both the governor and lieutenant governor’s schedules, announced that Garcia will breakfast with the AdAmAn Club at 7 a.m. in Manitou Springs on Sunday, Dec. 30, before the mountaineers begin trudging up Pike’s. And he’ll celebrate the New Year with them at midnight on Dec. 31 with the climbers at the summit of the mountain.
Why does this club get so much attention? Don’t thousands of people hike up Pikes Peak every year? I have done it twice. It’s no big deal. These people hike to the top and get a ride down. Big whoop. Besides, with the weather looking like it could be a repeat of last year, doesn’t anyone else care that these people cost the county thousands of dollars to rescue them last year? Now they’re going to do it again and expect the county to bail them out AGAIN!
Nathan, don’t be such a killjoy. You apparently are new to the area. They don’t cost the county anything for ‘rescue’. A 4WD club volunteers to drive them down. Fer heaven’s sake, go find some joy in your life and quit being such a wet blanket.
