After his arrest for tax evasion and three other related crimes, longtime tax foe Douglas Bruce was represented briefly by David Lane, a famous (or infamous, depending on one’s point of view) attorney from Denver. And now he’s been retained by Secretary of State Scott Gessler, to defend him against ethics charges.
Bruce represented himself throughout his trial, but hired Lane for a short time before and after his trial last December to handle his affairs.
Lane has also been retained by former University of Colorado Professor Ward Churchill, the Ballon Boy father Richard Heene, and plenty more headline-making defendants.
Perhaps a hint of the the potential deeds for which Sec. Gessler is under investigation, but not yet charged? (using State funds to pay for expenses to attend partisan political events). Also ‘Balloon.’
