Probably more than that, actually. That’s just the number who have signed the petition so far. (And they’re not only Coloradans; many are from other states.)
As of this writing, 7,239 people had put their name to a petition on the White House’s website, requesting that the president “peacefully grant the State of Colorado to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.”
A lot of the signers, though, aren’t from Colorado. Some are from Missouri, or Kentucky, or Texas, and other states.
Colorado isn’t the only place where people are so dissatisfied with President Barack Obama that they want to quit America. As far as I can tell, the phenomenon started in Louisiana last week, the day after Tuesday’s election, when Obama was re-elected. At this point, 17,900 people have signed that petition.
Then Texas started one. Then New York, Kentucky, Colorado and New Jersey, and more.

I signed it, I am tired of the takers demanding more from the makers, the last election is solid proof of that. It either we secede or we force California to split into 2-3 electoral states. To call California a win for the democrats 5 minutes after the poles close is insane, plus the state is a total welfare drain on the rest of the country.

Being how we have seen how the FBI can look at emails because of a “threat”, what is a bigger threat than wanting to secede from the union? Sure the petition is for the Govt to just grant it to the states that want it, but what if some will result to violence if it is not granted? So now the government has the email address and other info required to get an account to sign the petition. I do recall a while back the HHS said the biggest threat to the US is from domestic groups and not international terrorist. Carry on.
Brian I don’t see that as a theory and believe my information will be tagged, but when you look at violence in this country today most of it comes from the left like the occupy movement which I have no doubt was funded and encouraged by our current Gov’t. It utterly amazes me how people really can’t see what is going on. How many can say they read and understand obama care? By the results of the popular vote not many. Don’t want to be an American citizen? How about this for those who want to secede: Go to the nearest government office and revoke your American citizenship-totally and completely. It’s as easy as that. Now you have personally seceded from America. Congratulations.
That’s unconstitutional? Sorry, the Constitution of America is for Americans and to secede one must relinquish any and all rights of citizenship including all laws, which includes being covered under the privileges and rights of the Constitution of America.
Oh, by the way, just because some want to secede, most in Colorado live here by choice and aren’t going anywhere. There are currently 5,116,796 people (Jul 2011) people living in Colorado. So chances are that 5,101,796 that are happy to call themselves Coloradans and Americans are not going to pack up and find another place to live because 0.003% don’t happen to want to be Americans but happen to live in Colorado.
I fully agree with Anne, pack your bags and leave the country or revoke your citizenship along with all the benefits you receive by being a citizen of the U.S. The people signing these petitions are first class racists and do not speak for the “sane” population of our state. So many of these people are people who must have been successful in getting their way with temper tantrums as three year olds. Lay on the floor, scream and kick and your parents gave you anything you wanted.

Anne, I doubt very seriously that the majority of the people signing this petition actually want to secede from the U.S. Like myself, they are frustrated. We are tired of watching leaders on both sides of the isle look out for themselves and be darned with the well being of the country. The Democrats you seem to be backing are just as responsible for the state of the economy as the Republicans. Although I hate the UnConstitutional, socialist path the Liar-in-Chief and his Obamunist hoards are taking us down, and I’d love to see a real secessionist movement coming from many states, this won’t happen peacefully. Federal agencies are arming to the teeth and preparing for war very serious social upheaval, and I think Obama would love the chaos which a real secession movement would bring because that would give him an excuse to declare martial law and take over. He’s a dictator by temperament and loves ruling by decree, as shown by his proclivity to issue executive orders, which he’s issued more of than almost any other president in history, even though we’re not even in a serious war like WW2.
Among the agencies which are arming up and ordering weapons and/or massive amounts of hollow-point bullets are the Social Security Administration, which has purchased 174,000 rounds of ammunition, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Internal Revenue Service. Why in heck should any of these agencies even be armed? This is very, very bad and is a frightening indication of what’s to come.

Ok. So lets say secession is granted. The union pulls out all army, navy, air force, marines, national guard, coast guard and empties and destroys all munitions and munitions factories. Don’t forget. Comercial aircraft, boats and barges’ ships, tele-comunications and everything else government ran would be halted. Dont worry. Your new i-phone will make a great paper weight. Then halts all U.S. imports of all goods to those states. Hey, you ain’t with us then you’re against us. How are they gonna make a stand. You’re free range now. You’ll be speaking japanese or russian or german or something inside of two years or less.Secession would cost your state way too much capital and more than likely bankrupt your state. So Texas’ biggest complaint is wrong foreign and domestic spending. I wonder if they’re counting the 16.805 billion dollars the U.S.G. has freely given Texas from the Recovery Act Fund since February 2009.
Now the city of Austin.TX wants to secede from Texas and become their own state inside to Texas and remain a loyal and faithful member of the Union.
